I picked up the Summer issue of Magnolia Journal and was completely inspired by an article by Chip and Joanna talking about their day-dates. Every month, my husband and I make our best attempts at going out when my parents visit, but sometimes a dinner at a restaurant simply isn’t enough.
Inspired and determined, Mi Amor and I hopped in the car on Saturday morning and drove down Highway 46.
We picked Boerne as our destination, and it was a beautiful, scenic one hour drive from New Braunfels. We had stayed in the town for a wedding in 2016, but with a 6-month-old in tow it was a blur! It was great to go back and explore the charming town.

We parked on main street and went into a little cafe, Boerne Grill & Daily Grind. Since starting our low carb/no sugar lifestyle, it’s been challenging to do things spontaneously with meals and coffee. Fortunately we picked up some lovely iced coffee and sat perched on a window overlooking the main street. It was a perfect way to start our adventure!
After catching up, we moved on to strolling the strip. We’ve heard some people say Boerne is a lot like Fredericksburg, TX – here’s my thought: it is similar in that it has a main street lined with charming shops, boutiques and food. It doesn’t have nearly the same amount of things to do or wineries around. I still can’t wait to go back and explore!

We stumbled into Boerne Epicure Gourmet Market and this was by far the best stop during our visit. Filled with delicious local foods, oils, coffee and more specialty items (including stevia sweetened chocolates – yay!!). They have a deli as well that I wish we had been able to try. My favorite part was chatting with one of the local shop employees. I love this about Texas, it’s like we were friends our whole lives. Spending those 20 minutes chatting with Joanie blessed me abundantly and she will always hold a special place in my heart! When you visit, ask for Joanie and let her know I sent you!
Between checking out quirky antiques, chatting with locals and picking up a few farmhouse finds, overall our visit was perfect. If you’re looking for a quick and easy getaway in the Texas Hill Country, I highly recommend Boerne! Next time we hope to stay at a local B&B and fully take in the sights.
