So you made it through day one in our wardrobe edit, and now it is time to organize that closet of yours!
There are so many tips and hacks you could take on (I LOVE storage bins), but for the purposes of getting this done in one day, I am going to concentrate on what I believe is most important in just five easy steps.
First, you want amazing hangers.
I know, you probably don’t feel like the investment is worth it…or maybe you’re already on the hanger bandwagon. Look at it like this: does using a specific pen (I will only use fine tips) or a purposeful planner make you spend a little more? If you are anything like me the answer is yes! I strongly believe in investment items that make my life easier. And ladies, a good hanger (like these velvet hangers) will make you love your closet, make your garments hang better and will always keep your items snag-free.

Next, let’s organize your hanging clothes by category.
I always recommend my clients store items by type, then length. Here is a general guide:
- Divide up your categories: sleeveless shirts, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, dresses, skirts, pants, blazers, outerwear.
- Determine if you have a place to put off-season items (like another closet) or where you will store them. I have a large closet so I keep them on a lower, far away shelf but separate them from what I am currently wearing.
- Organize every category by color. This is how I do mine: white, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, gray, black, patterns.
- Invest in tiered hangers (I know, more hangers…but it will save you space!!) for items like denim or leggings.
