If you’ve been with me since part 1 on Monday, you are probably wondering what to do with your maybe pile. And if this is the first installment you are reading, I encourage you to go back to part one and part two to get started on your wardrobe edit.
Let’s dive right in!
If you are anything like me (or most women), you are probably indecisive when it comes to anything personal….seriously, I am pretty set on goals in business and navigating mom-life but when it comes to choosing what to eat, I can’t make up my mind. You may have been staring at your maybe pile and wondering what will come of this. Am I going to make you throw it out? Are you going to experiment with some hard challenge? Nope. This should be fun, but also help you nip any indecisiveness in the bud.
Here are 4 steps to help you keep or discard that maybe pile in your wardrobe:
First, try everything on.
I know, it will be time consuming, but if you want to make the right decision this will help you so much. When you have it on, snap a photo of yourself in the outfit and go back and review all these after.
Bonus points if you can invite an honest friend or family member over! They will help you weed out your collection fast.
Ask yourself: Can I wear this three ways?
Remember when I shared five easy fashion tips and you started asking yourself if you had three ways to wear the article of clothing you want to purchase? Yup, do that again here! If you can’t, it may stay unworn for another year-or-so in your closet.
Speaking of years….ask yourself: when was the last time I wore this?
If it has been more than a year, chuck it. You’ll thank me later.
And lastly, after every option above has been exhausted…
Use the backwards-hanger method
You want to keep this item, but there is something that has kept it in the maybe pile. I always have my clients turn their hangers backwards. This will help you keep a reminder that you still haven’t worn this item. If in six months (weather permitting) you still haven’t worn it, it is time to bid it farewell.
Ultimately, your closet should never make you feel guilty. Whether it is something you paid for and don’t want to part with, a gift from your favorite person or your “skinny jeans,” when it is time to let go, it simply is. Let. It. Go.
So you’ve made it to day three! How is it going?? I would love to hear about your experience so far in the comments! And, ladies, if you are stumped on this activity please remember you can always email me. This is just one of the many services I offer and it would be my pleasure to help you rock your closet out in 2019.
Don’t forget to catch my part 3 live video below as well as today’s email for your secret words of the day. I can’t wait to see who will score the Tarte lipgloss, Essentialsm, and the velvet hangers!
See you tomorrow for part 4!
