Okay, so before you read past the title I have a confession: even though I am about to share the best way to start your day, I am guilty of hitting that snooze button and skipping over this more than I’d like to admit. There are days that I don’t even set an alarm (aka pre-meditated snoozing). Those days are never as good, no matter how many great activities we have planned.
I am not a morning person. In fact, my father would throw water on me in the mornings so I would wake up for school. Then I would proceed to sleep in the bathtub while the shower ran. I’m grumpy. I am naturally a night owl, I was never meant for mornings.
But, if I wake up an hour earlier than BabyCoolJ (6:30am…it hurts just typing it) and spend that hour with God, my day is so, so much better.
I like to start off with prayer. For me it isn’t formal, although you can do that if it suits you. I take out my daily prayer journal and pray over my husband, son, friends and family. Anyone who’s asked for a prayer request also goes into my book. And, I pray over myself too! (we can all use a little more of that, can’t we?!) I love spending this time having a conversation with God, and sipping my coffee.
I also get in some reading. I’m usually participating in a Bible study (or three!) and catch up on that reading, but I have made it a point to actually read my Bible too. I know it will take me a while to get through the New Testament, but I love soaking it all in.
If you are not a believer, take that hour to read a good book, mediate or journal. The key is no distractions, no social media and just being one-on-one with yourself (or in my case, God!)
Just like the T-shirt says: I just need a little coffee and a whole lotta Jesus!
I try to find quiet time for myself everyday…just depends on my work schedule. I love drinking coffee in silence, lol.
Coffee in silence is a win for sure!
You have such a great perspective. Love this. Thank you for the encouraging words….it really made me think.
Thank you, Holly! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
